2012 Ghana in Mars

Arriving in Ghana

I arrived in Accra about 20 minutes before schedule, I got of the plane trough the passport control without any line at all. My bag was the second coming out on the baggage belt so I was through the airport in no time. I was going to be piked up at the airport, but of course no one was there because they did not expect me to be out at the same time that the plane was scheduled to land. When I was waiting it was a lot of taxi drivers trying to convince me to take their taxi. But after a while they let me alone.

After about 10-15 minutes i was picked up and we got to Grete and Henry’s apartment, where we had something to drink and got early to bed. The plan was to drive to Kumasi early the next day.

Driving to Kumasi

The traffic in Ghana is interesting, you have a lot of private owned buses (Tro-tros) that thinks that they are allowed to do anything to get in line before you, another thing is that no one will ever let you go before them if you do not force yourself in. So when we where driving out of Accra we ended up in a traffic jam, I guess we used about 45 minutes on a 200 meter stretch before the police came and sorted the traffic out.

The road to Kumasi was an interesting road that when trough a lot of villages with markets and people doing business almost in the road, the problem with this was that the drive took a lot of time. But we arrived in Kumasi before it got dark.

In the evening we got out to eat, they had an big menu but when we asked they only had a few of the items left (we got there around 7pm). So we ordered what they had, most of it was good 🙂
